Online Classes & Performances

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Silver Kite is offering online intergenerational arts workshops, talks, social hours, and performances for the community.  By offering these opportunities, we aim to provide stimulating creative engagement opportunities and social connection during this challenging time.

Join us for live, interactive workshops in visual arts, dance / movement,  reminiscence, and storytelling / writing.  Or join us for a free social hour!

 

Registration is open for individual participants of all ages.  

We also have a pre-recorded performance of Silver Kite's Intergenerational Theatre Company touring production of "Keys" available to watch for a small fee.  

If you live in Snohomish or Island Counties, Sno-Isle Libraries is offering FREE registration for selected Silver Kite arts workshops through the month of July.  Please visit the Sno-Isle Access webpage and use the password:  sil2020 to register.

If you live in Seattle, you register for FREE arts workshops supported by the Arts in Parks program, a partnership between Seattle Parks and Recreation and the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture.  Click here to see a description of these workshop and to register.

If you live in greater King County, the King County Library System is offering FREE registration to selected online workshops.  Please visit the KCLS Access webpage and use the password:  KCLS2020 to register.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register for a class?

1.  Choose the class you're interested in.  Click on the "Click here to register" button.

2.  You will be sent to a registration screen.  Enter your name and email address.  Press submit.

3.  After you complete this step you will be sent to PayPal to complete your registration payment (if your class requires it).  

4.  If you have a PayPal account you can sign in to your account to pay for the class.  If you do not have a PayPal account, scroll to the bottom of the screen and click on "Pay by Credit or Debit Card."  Enter your payment information.

5.  If you are not interested in paying by PayPal, please contact us by phone - (360) 218-4884 - and we can help you.

6.  After you have completed your registration you will receive a confirmation email.  Please check your spam or junk folders to make sure you have received it.  If you don't receive it, please let us know.

After I have registered for the online experience how do I access it?

An email will be sent to you after you register for the class and reminder email will be sent to you again a day before the class.  In each of these emails is a link that says "Click Here to Join."  At the time of your class, click that link and you're in! 

We have found using Chrome as your internet browser works much better than Safari to access our classes.

If the link is not working, open Chrome and type in "join.zoom.us" a screen will pop up which asks you to enter a meeting ID.  The meeting ID is a 9 digit number that you will receive in your email.

You can also join a class by phone.  Instructions on how to call in can be found on your registration confirmation email.

Do I need a microphone or video camera to participate?

No.  You can just listen if you like.  You can also join us by phone.  If you have questions during the class you can ask them by typing questions on the screen.  You can also join us with your camera or audio if you like

Do I need a Zoom account to access these classes?

No!  You do not need a Zoom account to participate in our online classes.  Join us!

Visual Arts Workshops 

Watercolor Your World (Beginning Watercolors): 

During this workshop, we'll explore basic watercolor techniques by exploring color and

color mixing, and creating an original painting of your own.

 

What you'll need:

Watercolors

Brush

Cup of water

Pencil

Sharpie or thick marker

Paper (watercolor paper is ideal but not necessary)

Join us for a step-by-step acrylic painting workshop with one of Silver Kite's professional teaching artists. Grab a beverage of your choice and spend an hour with us talking and making art together!

During this hands on workshop, you'll learn some basic drawing techniques in shading, line, and perspective as you draw a still life.

Making Newspaper Planters: 

Do you have a stack of newspapers sitting at home? Want to explore ways to re-use or upcycle them? Celebrate the beginning of spring by making a garden container made out of a newspaper! During this hands-on workshop participants will make and decorate 2 different styles of seed-starting newspaper pots.

Supplies needed:

3-4 sections of newspaper
scissors
Masking or painters tape
Cup or bottle 3 - 5" in diameter

Introduction to Visual Journaling: 

Do you keep a journal? During this interactive workshop we will explore ways to record daily experiences and memories by creating a visual journal.

During the workshop we will create our own journal and explore basic drawing skills to help us get started.

-Drawing pad (About 6 sheets of printer paper is okay, but a heavier weighted paper pad is best)

Dance / Movement Workshops

Jump for Joy:  Rhythms from around the world:  

Dance along with us!

 

Learn village dances and rhythms from around the world during this interactive workshop!

 

We'll begin by exploring what we’re doing: honoring, not replicating, the gifts of many cultures. Folk dances change as they pass from person to person, and no one dance could ever represent an entire culture.

 

The workshop will be facilitated so participants can either be seated or standing during the experience.

Mindfulness & Reminiscence Sessions

Mindfulness, Compassion, Creativity & Performance

In this workshop, participants will play interactive theater & movement games, learn a basic form of compassion meditation and explore on the edges of their creativity.

Working with elements of Theater of The Oppressed and Loving Kindness Meditation, participants will explore some basic elements loving ourselves and others (freedom, interdependence, joy, boundaries and choice). This workshop will include group games silent reflection and even a little drawing.

Music & Memories:  The 1960s (Dementia Friendly)

Everyday objects, old photos, advertisements, and favorite music become sparks for celebrations of past and present moments during this interactive storytelling workshop.  During the workshop you'll engage in a reminiscence session, share stories, and sing along to musical favorites from the 1960s

This workshop has been designed and will be facilitated for persons with dementia and their care partners. Everyone is welcome!
