SilverKite Community Arts®, LLC brings in-person intergenerational arts workshops to several communities throughout Washington. These FREE workshops are for all ages and are open to the public. Family Workshop: Community Poster Studio - $10-15

Design artwork with messages for our community.
Using stencil, sticker, acrylic paint, tracing techniques, and comic-inspired styles, participants will design artwork with messages for our community. Influenced by graffiti, collage, zines, and poster art to create posters meant to be seen and displayed in a window or shared space. These serve as small, powerful markers that say “you’re part of this place” and aim to define our community identity. Add symbols, images, or short messages to make it your own!

Community Arts Lab: Intro to Embroidery Stitching - $20

Creative Writing: Flash Memoir

A short form of creative nonfiction, flash memoir focuses on bringing an impactful personal experience to the page. Participants will learn how to use precise language to create a “snapshot” in order to tell a distilled story. All levels are welcome.

This calming and creative workshop emphasizes self-expression while learning a basic approach to mandala making. Mandala, meaning “magic circle” in Sanskrit, is a geometric design with repeating patterns. A variety of materials of various textures and step-by step guidance are provided. Participants will leave with a completed colorful mandala.

Arts Social Hour: Bag Charms - $15

This workshop is centered on creative exchange – take a trinket, leave a trinket. Participants are invited to create a handmade bag charm using fabric, ribbon, beads, and collage materials, with special items traded, gifted, collected, and created. A “customization bar” of materials will be available to spark ideas and encourage playful experimentation. Bring your own small objects or materials to incorporate into the charm or to add to the exchange.
Optional story cards will be available to share meaning and dedication behind an item, why it matters, where it came from, or what it represents.

Drawing: The Art of Line Drawing

Family Workshop: Suncatchers for the Window - $10-15

Create a shimmering hanging sculpture designed to catch the rainbow. Using beads, iridescent film, and colorful reflective materials, participants will craft mobiles that scatter light into a kaleidoscope of color – like a DIY sun-catcher with a hint of disco sparkle.
Each piece is made to move, glow, and transform with the light. Take yours home to brighten a window, or add it to the SilverKite street display to build a collective, color-filled installation that shifts and sparkles throughout the day.

Family Workshop: Thread, Collage, and Bead Place Markers - $10-15

Create threaded bookmarks and small woven keepsakes inspired by Seattle’s landscapes and layered identity. Using beads, fibers, and fabrics, participants will design pieces that reflect the textures of the city – coffee culture, native plants, Tahoma and the mountain ranges, and the waters of the Puget Sound.
These handcrafted bookmarks become functional, everyday objects that carry meaning – small reminders of place, memory, and connection to the natural world woven into daily life.
